The Role
Civmec is seeking an experienced and driven Configuration Management Lead to oversee the development, implementation, and continuous improvement of configuration management practices across a complex defence shipbuilding program.
This pivotal leadership role ensures the integrity, traceability, and compliance of product data in accordance with customer and defence standards. The successful candidate will thrive in a dynamic environment, navigating ambiguity, driving clarity, and fostering collaboration across multiple disciplines to deliver precise and compliant configuration outcomes.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Lead the Configuration Management (CM) Program for a large-scale defence shipbuilding initiative.
- Define, implement, and enforce CM policies, procedures, and standards aligned with the ASDEFCON defence framework.
- Own and maintain the Configuration Management Plan (CMP), ensuring accuracy and compliance with evolving program needs
- Maintain alignment between product baselines, documentation, and configuration items across all departments.
- Act as the primary CM point of contact for the customer, ensuring adherence to contractual and regulatory obligations.
- Chair and facilitate Configuration Management Working Groups and represent Civmec in customer-facing forums.
- Lead and mentor a team of five Configuration Management professionals, driving capability, consistency, and continuous improvement.
- Collaborate with Engineering, Integrated Logistics Support (ILS), Quality, and Production to embed CM practices throughout all program phases.
- Support Design and Change Control Boards, ensuring timely and accurate processing of Engineering Change Proposals (ECPs).
- Prepare and lead configuration audits, ensuring readiness and compliance with defence and quality standards.
About You
To be successful in the role you will possess the following:
- Degree in Engineering, Information Systems, or a related technical discipline.
- Proven experience in Configuration Management within complex, regulated industries such as defence, aerospace, or shipbuilding.
- Strong understanding of the ASDEFCON framework and defence CM standards.
- Excellent stakeholder engagement and communication skills, including customer-facing experience and audit leadership.
- Demonstrated ability to work effectively within environments involving complex digital workflows, integrations, and evolving processes.
- Hands-on experience with PLM systems
Due to the Security Clearance required for this position, applicants must be an Australian Citizen and eligible to obtain and uphold a Baseline Security Clearance through the Australian Department of Defence.
