Step into a pivotal role where your accounting expertise directly contributes to the success of high-impact projects. As a Junior Cost Controller, you’ll be part of a dynamic team responsible for ensuring financial accuracy, cost control, and compliance across all phases of project delivery.

You’ll gain hands-on experience in cost tracking, forecasting, and reporting—while working closely with project teams to support financial performance and operational efficiency.

The Role

As a member of the project controls team within the maintenance business unit, you will:

  • Review Material Requisitions (MR), Purchase Requisitions (PR), and apply Cost Code cheat sheets to ensure accurate allocation of commitments and invoices to the correct Work Breakdown Structure (WBS), including proper handling of project shutdowns.
  • Monitor committed and open Purchase Orders, ensuring timely closure and financial accuracy.
  • Prepare invoicing using timesheets and supporting data to ensure full recovery of invoicable amounts.
  • Maintain visual dashboards and graphs that track financial and progress data throughout the project lifecycle, supporting reporting integrity and identifying trends or deviations.
  • Manage a calendar of month-end reporting deadlines for both projects and the business unit, ensuring timely and accurate preparation of profit and cash flow forecasts.
  • Collaborate with the Project Controls Manager to develop, manage, and audit business unit expenditure.
  • Audit the procurement process to confirm that all requisitions and related invoices are authorized by the designated approver.
  • Maintain a register of project claim timeframes and oversee the full lifecycle of payment claims, certificates, invoicing, and payments.
  • Maintain key registers such as the Invoice Register, Job Register, and PO Register, and proactively inform clients or their representatives when Purchase Orders are nearing exhaustion.

About You

Qualifications               

  • Tertiary qualifications in the related discipline - Bachelor's degree in finance or CPA or equivalent demonstrated experience in the finance space

Experience  

  • Previously worked in the Mining, Construction and Engineering sectors  advantageous but not essential
  • Knowledge in the application and establishment of project planning, scheduling and cost control tools  
  • Extensive experience in management accounting or project control coordination

Skills  

  • Strong problem-solving skills and attention to details  
  • Ability to work autonomously in a fast-paced working environment 
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills 
  • Strong interpersonal skills 
  • Time management skills 
  • Basic competence in all Microsoft Office Suites
