Join a leading estimating team, influence, and win projects from an early stage. You will play a key role in developing innovative methodologies, approaches, and the overall estimate within a dedicated and supportive large business development team environment.
As a Junior Estimator, you will support our senior estimators across the full tender lifecycle, from material take-offs and cost build-ups through to compiling competitive submissions for Civmec's projects nationwide. It is an ideal opportunity for someone early in their estimating career who is eager to learn, grow and build a long-term future with the business.
The Role
- Assist senior estimators with cost build-ups, methodologies and the compilation of tender submissions
- Track the progress of tender packages through to submission
- Review drawings and specifications to understand project scope and identify gaps, risks or inconsistencies
- Undertake material take-offs (MTOs), extracting quantities from drawings and applying correct measurement rules
- Calculate labour, plant, material and mobilisation costs as part of cost estimating activities
- Maintain accurate, auditable cost data within Excel and estimating systems
- Develop clear cost breakdowns and compile estimate summaries and BOQ-style outputs
- Prepare RFQs, source competitive pricing from subcontractors and suppliers, and follow up to ensure full scope coverage
- Review and compare quotes, identifying discrepancies and supporting estimate reviews with the wider team
- Maintain well-organised tender documentation and prepare scope summaries under guidance
- Collaborate with engineers and estimators and participate in tender meetings
- Build your knowledge of construction methods, estimating processes and cost analysis
About You
To be successful in the role, you will possess the following:
- A minimum of 2 years' experience in a similar estimating or cost support role
- Experience within the construction, mining or resources industries on large-scale projects
- Proficiency in Excel for building and maintaining structured cost data
- The ability to read and interpret drawings and specifications
- A strong work ethic with clear, confident communication skills
- Alignment with Civmec's values and a genuine desire to learn and grow with the business
- Advanced Excel formula skills (desirable but not essential)
- A trade qualification — Boilermaker, Mechanical Fitter or Welding (desirable but not essential)
- Prior exposure to industry in a blue-collar position or to Fabrication / SMP projects (highly regarded)
