The Role

 

The ILS Digital Media Designer shall create interactive training media by translating technical information sourced from Engineering Design Drawings and CAD models, Maintenance Tasks, Standard Operating Procedures, Equipment Manuals, first-hand experience On Board Navy vessels, and direct briefings from fellow ILS Training Instructors and Navy Crew (Sailors).

 

Duties and Responsibilities

 

Media Storyboarding

 

    • Take creative briefings from the Senior Media Designer and Training Specialists to formulate concepts for media creation.

 

Photography and Real-time Capture

 

    • Routinely capture footage onboard vessel to build stock image library.
    • Record specific tasks being conducted to validate Preventative and Corrective Maintenance, Engineering Operation Sequences (EOSS), Daily Rounds, Damage Control and other activities related to operating the Offshore Patrol Vessel.

 

Media Asset Organisation

 

    • Maintain stock image library. Organise and enhance photos, illustrations and 3D models for use in 3D and game engine software.
    • Assign metadata to graphic assets (this includes ‘Ship Effectivity’ and ‘Learning Outcome’ criteria) featured in media titles both in design development and published.
    • Support the media publishing process by deploying training courses to various digital platforms (desktop, tablet, online) and various physical locations (HMAS Stirling, Secure networks on-board Ship).

 

Media Proposal and Marketing Assistance

  •  
    • Training media may be displayed at Defence Industry exhibitions and can be featured as a valuable capability when tendering for future projects.

 

About You

 

To be successful in the role you will possess the following:

 

  • Proficiency in CAD software (e.g., AutoCAD, Teamcenter Visualisation)
  • Intermediate – high level skills in graphic design software (e.g., Adobe Creative Suite)
  • Experience liaising with Suppliers, OEM, and Design Engineering Leads to source technical data is highly desirable.
  • Experience navigating vessel with time beside running machinery and equipment is highly desirable.
  • Ability to read and comprehend design schematics and audit bill of materials.
  • Ability to read and comprehend equipment manuals and standard operating procedures.
  • Willingness to travel short distances on regular basis to consult Training department colleagues (EG. HMAS Stirling Garden Island / NTSC-W).
  • Experience in the following tools and technologies:
    • Creative Tools: Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, Premier Pro, Blender 3D, AutoCAD
    • Administrative Tools: Teamcenter DMS, SharePoint, Airtable, Microsoft Office
    • Equipment: DSLR Camera, Tripod, Motorised Gimbal, 360 Camera, familiarisation with VR / XR Headsets and Hand Controllers

 

 

Due to the Security Clearance required for this position, applicants must be an Australian Citizen and eligible to obtain and uphold a Baseline Security Clearance through the Australian Department of Defence.
