Civmec’s Balanced Machines Division is expanding rapidly, with multiple projects awarded and a strong pipeline ahead. These machines are designed, fabricated, assembled, and tested at our state-of-the-art Henderson facility, and you’ll play a key role in bringing them to life.
We’re seeking a Chartered Principal Structural Engineer to join our team of specialist engineers. In this leadership role, you’ll work across the full project lifecycle from concept design through fabrication and final commissioning at client sites across Australia. You’ll collaborate with a multi-discipline team to deliver innovative, high-performance solutions for some of the most exciting projects in the mining sector.

The Role
- Implement the effective delivery of structural engineering components outlined in the Project Engineering Management Plan, ensuring alignment with the overall Project Execution Plan. This includes developing job instructions and liaising with clients on specific structural engineering requirements.
- Support bid preparation and attend client meetings in collaboration with Sales Department personnel, as directed by the Structural Engineering Manager.
- Provide oversight, technical leadership, and mentoring to graduate engineers as appropriate.
- Ensure structural objectives are achieved through effective coordination with the Lead Structural Engineer.
- Participate in structural meetings and reviews with the engineering team, project team, and clients during the engineering execution phase.
- Report on key quantities, budgets, deliverable status, and progress, including efficiency and cost tracking for structural engineering activities.
- Contribute to engineering change management processes, including control, justification, and estimation of cost and time impacts.
- Review structural documents, data, and information as required by the Lead Structural Engineer.
- Assist fabrication and package engineers to ensure timely delivery of fabrication packages.
- Support the development of the Project Execution Plan where required.
About You
To be successful in the role you will possess the following:
- A Bachelor of Engineering, or equivalent degree, recognised by Engineers Australia in the civil/structural discipline
- Chartered Engineer status (required)
- Experience working on stackers, reclaimers, and shiploaders
- 10+ years of engineering experience
- Prior involvement in detailed design of structures and plants
- Proficiency in structural engineering software, ideally SPACE GASS, ANSYS, Strand7
- In-depth understanding of relevant Australian Standards, including but not limited to:
- AS 4100
- AS 3990
- AS 4324.1
- Proficient knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite
- Excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills, with the ability to write clear and concise technical reports and documents
- A collaborative team approach to building effective relationships and influencing stakeholders
