Civmec is proud to be partnering with Iluka on the delivery of the SMPE&I package for the Iluka Rare Earths Refinery, one of Australia’s most significant critical minerals projects. This landmark development will establish the country’s first fully integrated rare earths refinery and involves the delivery of large-scale structural, mechanical, piping, electrical and instrumentation works within a complex processing environment.


As construction continues to advance, we are seeking an experienced Engineering Manager to lead the engineering function across the SMPE&I scope. This key leadership role will be responsible for providing technical direction, managing engineering deliverables, coordinating multidisciplinary interfaces, and ensuring the safe, efficient, and compliant execution of works. Working closely with project, construction, and client stakeholders, you will play a critical role in driving project performance, mitigating technical risk, and supporting successful project delivery.

 

This position is based at the Iluka Rare Earths Refinery in Eneabba, approximately 274 km north of Perth, Western Australia. We offer a 2:1 DIDO roster, with all transport to and from site provided from Perth Airport.

The Role

The Engineering Manager plays a critical role in identifying and mitigating technical risk, resolving complex engineering challenges, and ensuring works are executed in accordance with project requirements, industry best practice, and applicable standards.


Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Lead and mentor a multidisciplinary engineering team, fostering a collaborative, high-performing culture.
  • Provide technical leadership across all project phases, ensuring engineering deliverables are completed safely, accurately, and on schedule.
  • Manage engineering interfaces with construction, quality, procurement, design consultants, subcontractors, and client stakeholders.
  • Drive technical risk management, constructability reviews, and management of change processes to support successful project execution.
  • Ensure compliance with project specifications, contractual requirements, applicable codes, standards, and quality requirements.
  • Oversee the preparation and review of work packs, technical queries, material requisitions, and engineering documentation.
  • Monitor design changes and engineering performance, assessing impacts on project cost, schedule, and resource requirements.
  • Support project reporting, progress claims, variations, and continuous improvement initiatives to achieve project objectives.

About You

To be successful in the role you will possess the following:

  • Degree qualified in Mechanical or Piping Engineering or a related discipline
  • Extensive project engineering experience within SMPE&I major projects
  • Proven leadership experience managing engineering teams in a project environment.
  • Strong communication and stakeholder management skills
  • Demonstrated site-based construction experience on large-scale processing or industrial facilities
  • Current White Card (Construction Card)
  • Adaptable, solutions-focused, and capable of thriving in a fast-paced project environment
  • Driven to take ownership, support project success, and deliver outcomes
