Civmec is proud to be partnering with Iluka on the delivery of the SMPE&I package for the Iluka Rare Earths Refinery, one of Australia’s most significant critical minerals projects. This landmark development will establish Australia's first fully integrated rare earths refinery and includes the delivery of large-scale structural, mechanical, piping, electrical and instrumentation works within a complex processing environment.
As construction continues to progress, we are seeking an experienced SMP Superintendent to join our project team and play a key leadership role in the safe, efficient, and successful delivery of the Structural, Mechanical and Piping scope. This is an exciting opportunity to contribute to a nationally significant project while working alongside experienced industry professionals in a collaborative and high-performing environment.
Based at the Iluka Rare Earths Refinery in Eneabba, approximately 274km north of Perth, this position operates on a 2:1 DIDO roster, with transport to and from site provided from Perth Airport.
The Role
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Lead and coordinate all SMP construction activities across the project.
- Build and maintain strong client relationships while identifying opportunities to support future work and project growth.
- Manage and coordinate supervisors, trades personnel, and subcontractors to achieve project objectives.
- Review resource plans, labour requirements, schedules, equipment, and material needs to ensure efficient project delivery.
- Drive a strong safety culture through workplace inspections, audits, leadership engagement, and HSE initiatives.
- Monitor project progress and productivity, ensuring construction activities are completed in accordance with approved schedules.
- Oversee quality compliance, construction methodologies, and project execution plans.
- Manage project costs, forecasts, budgets, and reporting requirements within delegated authority.
- Identify, manage, and mitigate project risks while supporting change management processes.
- Assist with tender reviews, quotations, project budgets, and business development opportunities.
- Ensure effective communication between project teams, clients, and stakeholders.
- Support workforce planning, recruitment activities, training requirements, and performance management of direct reports.
- Prepare accurate daily, weekly, and monthly reports on project performance.
- Maintain compliance with contractual, quality, and operational requirements.
About You
To be successful in this role, you will possess:
- Management qualification or demonstrated leadership experience in a similar role.
- Trade qualification within the SMP disciplines.
- Current White Card (Construction Induction Card).
- Current C Class Driver's Licence.
- Proven experience as an SMP Superintendent, Superintendent, Construction Superintendent, or similar leadership role.
- Strong understanding of construction, mining, resources, oil & gas, or heavy industrial projects.
- Demonstrated experience managing large site-based workforces and subcontractors.
- Excellent leadership, communication, and stakeholder management skills.
- Strong commercial awareness, including budgeting, forecasting, and project controls.
- A proactive, solutions-focused approach with a commitment to safety, quality, and project performance.
