The Opportunity

 

Full time permanent position based in Henderson Corporate office

 

Civmec are currently seeking a Contracts Advisor/In-house Lawyer to join our Corporate Contracts team.  This is a permanent, full time position based at our Head Office in Henderson.

As part of the Contracts Team you will be responsible for providing effective contract management and ensuring that Civmec’s exposure to commercial and legal risks in tendering and performing any contracts, as well as the resolution of any disputes, is commensurate with its risk profile and the overall interest of the Civmec Group.

Duties and Responsibilities

 

The key responsibilities of this position are to support the Senior Contracts Advisor in providing legal advice across the business to management and executives for contractual issues, key duties include the following; 

 

  • Drafting and administration of contracts and legal documentation.
  • Review of tender documentation and identification of contract risks.
  • Review Head Contracts and issue commercial clarifications.
  • Prepare and managing securities and insurances in accordance with contractual requirements and company policies.
  • Conducting and co-ordinating commercial and legal negotiations with contractors.
  • Assist in drafting of strategic pre-contracts agreements.
  • Reviewing contractual commitments and interpretation of rights and obligations and assess claims made under contracts by or against the business.
  • Prepare contract suites for projects (flow down of Head Contract provisions).
  • Liaising with company procurement, risk management and audit personnel.
  • Provide advice regarding contracting, project/ contractual risk management, disputes and insurance across the business.
  • Provide advice and input to internal estimating team on insurance and tender risks and pricing thereof

About You

 

Essential

 

  • University degree in Law 
  • Experience in Australian construction law and dispute resolution
  • Good understanding of construction contract and risk allocation.
  • Minimum 2 years’ Post admission experience in private practice or in-house in Australia
  • Negotiating and contract drafting skills
