The Opportunity

Civmec has an exciting opportunity available for an experienced Purchasing / Supply Chain Manager to become an intergal member of our management team for the construction of twelve Offshore Patrol Vessels (OPVs) as part of the Australian Commonwealth’s SEA1180 Program.

This Henderson WA based role will commence immediately working closely with the OPV Project Manager.  The first two OPVs are already under construction in South Australia, before construction of the remaining ten moves to Henderson in early 2020. These ten vessels will be constructed at our purpose-built state-of-the-art 53,000 sqm 70-metre high facility, currently under construction and due for completion in late 2019.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Foster a collaborative environment with internal Project Team and the client to effectively manage and accomplish supply chain objectives.
  • Develop, implement and maintain purchasing procedures and practices to ensure competitive cost, highest quality and timely delivery.
  • Continuously identify, measure, improve, and follow supply chain processes.
  • Understand and articulate business and supply chain characteristics, market conditions as well as personal and project strategies as related to supplier and commodities.
  • Develop and mentor direct reports in business professionalism, negotiation techniques, cost reduction strategy development and execution, contract development, supply chain management, and efficient project and time management.
  • Develop and foster positive and mutually beneficial business relationships with suppliers.
  • Develop, monitor and report key performance indicators.
  • Issue and review quotes, contact vendors, and award component bids, as required.
  • Negotiate and buy supplies, materials, equipment, software, and services consistent with cost, quality, and delivery expectations, as required.
  • Work with the Project Team to develop and negotiate contractual agreements for equipment, services, software, and supplies, as required.
  • Travel to supplier locations to evaluate capabilities and lead business meetings, as required.
  • Review requisitions and purchase orders to ensure proper authorization and complete information.
  • Place purchase orders typically for inventory and non-inventory materials, supplies, raw materials and/or professional services.
  • Interface with Project Team regarding vendor performance and price increases to resolve issues.

About You

Qualifications    

Essential

  • Bachelor’s Degree or Diploma in business management or accounting, or equivalent experience

Preferred

  • MCIPS certification

 

Experience

Essential

  • At least 7 years of progressive purchasing experience
  • At least 2 years of supervisory experience.
  • Strong computer skills - MS Word, Excel and purchasing ERP System(s)

 Preferred

  • Practical knowledge of construction or fabrication industry within the Defence or Ship Building Sector
  • Working knowledge of COINS ERP system
  • Having an international supplier base
