Civmec is proud to be delivering Iluka’s SMPE&I package, including the piping installation scope for Iluka Rare Earths Refinery, Australia’s first fully integrated rare earths facility and a key component of the nation’s critical minerals strategy. With construction progressing, this scope encompasses structural, mechanical, piping, electrical and instrumentation works across a complex and high‑profile processing facility. As the project advances, we are now seeking an experienced HSE Superintendent to lead safety performance and drive a strong safety culture across the SMPE&I works.
This position is based at the Iluka Rare Earths Refinery in Eneabba, approximately 274 km north of Perth, Western Australia. We offer a 2:1 DIDO roster, providing a balanced and consistent schedule. All transport to and from site is provided via Perth Airport.
The Role
As HSE Superintendent, you’ll play a pivotal role in shaping and maintaining a culture of safety excellence across the project.
Your main duties will include:
- Establishing and implementing a compliant HSE Management System tailored to the project scope
- Auditing and inspecting site-specific HSE systems to ensure ongoing compliance and effectiveness
- Designing and rolling out new HSE initiatives that drive continuous improvement
- Compiling and distributing HSE reports, including incident investigations and trend analyses
- Communicating HSE requirements clearly across project and corporate teams
- Supporting risk identification and mitigation processes to ensure all activities are reduced to ALARP (As Low as Reasonably Practicable)
- Leading incident investigations and delivering findings to project and management teams for action and learning
- Submit monthly HSE reports
- Conduct comprehensive monthly HSE audits across the site
- Ensure all HSE-related actions are closed out accordingly
- Actively promote HSE initiatives and foster awareness among site personnel
- Perform additional duties as required to meet evolving project needs
About You
To be successful in the role you will possess the following:
- Diploma in Occupational Health & Safety (OH&S) or Work Health & Safety (WHS)
- Certification in ICAM or Taproot incident investigation methodologies
- At least 10 years’ experience in a similar HSE role on remote construction or mining sites
- Intermediate proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint)
- Hands-on experience with HSE databases and reporting systems
- Strong communication skills with the ability to engage and influence a wide range of stakeholders
- Proven experience conducting and leading incident investigations
- Demonstrated ability to manage and mentor teams effectively
