The Opportunity

Civmec has secured the award of a major construction contract for the Rio Tinto Western Range Project at their Paraburdoo site in the Pilbara region of Western Australia.

The iron ore project includes Greenfields and Brownfields scope with the construction of a new Run of Mine (ROM) pad, primary crushing facility, overland conveying circuit and modifications to the Coarse Ore Stockpile (COS) and downstream conveying system.

The Greenfields scope includes a new primary crushing facility, discharge conveyor and transfer station and a 17-kilometre overland conveying system that transfers the ore through to the existing Paraburdoo COS. The overland conveying system includes multiple conveyor flights, transfer stations and creek crossings to link the new primary crusher to the existing process plant.

The Brownfields scope includes extensive modifications to the current Paraburdoo COS and downstream conveying system. This includes addition of new feed points at the COS, new ore transfer equipment, conveyor replacements, conveyor upgrades, drive replacements and a range of other general modifications to receive the new ore stream.

The Role

Our SMP Supervisors are responsible for the planning and control of construction work crew activities to ensure the site works are completed in accordance with safety, quality, time and profit objectives for the Project.

  • Oversee the construction activities, including but not limited to, erection of structural, mechanical & piping (SMP) mining components on site. General rigging and cranage activities from time to time
  • Supervise and control designated project works for all SMP duties
  • Provide accurate daily report with attention to schedule, progress, delay, issues and concerns
  • Process material take-offs
  • Liaise with Project Engineers regarding construction issues and technical queries
  • Report to Superintendents, area managers and/Construction Managers regarding scheduling issues
  • Coordinate with Logistics and Materials Team regarding materials and deliveries for their scope
  • Ensure relevant field inspection checklists are completed and signed in conjunction with client representatives
  • Understand and implement quality control techniques
  • Maintain company standards for Quality Assurance purposes
  • Manage labour relations and coordinate with the representative groups to ensure a harmonious workplace
  • Complete day work sheets; labour and plant and equipment hours for variation / site instruction works and seek approval/sign off the Day work sheets with the Client Representative

About You

To be successful in the role you will possess the following:

  • Relevant trade certificate (if applicable)
  • Previous demonstrated experience as a Supervisor
  • Demonstrated experience working in the construction, mining and resource industries on large scale projects
  • Proficient knowledge in MS Office suite
  • Developed interpersonal skills
