After securing a very exciting project with Rio Tinto, Civmec are currently seeking experienced Trade Assistants on a casual basis. These positions will commence in mid-January 2026 and run through until the end of the year.
The scope of work being undertaken covers most disciplines performed by Civmec within the maintenance space. The project will comprise of 7 shutdowns over a period of 12 months performing upgrades on the clients’ balance machines (2x Reclaimers, 2x Stackers and 2x Shiploaders).
Shutdown dates for 2026:
- 31/01 – 25/02
- 16/03 – 07/04
- 25/04 – 17/05
- 01/06 – 22/06
- 21/07 – 11/08
- 24/08 – 21/09
- 19/10 – 16/11
The Role
- Operate a variety of tools and machines including forklifts, EWP’s, grinders, power drills or other cutting and shaping tools and machines
- Prepare and set up work areas for tradespeople including mechanical fitters, electricians, boilermakers, and other trades.
- Load, unload, and deliver building materials to designated areas on-site, ensuring timely supply for ongoing tasks.
- Transport tools, materials, and components between workstations, storage areas, and work fronts.
- Support qualified trades across various tasks including demolition, installation, assembly, and site preparation.
- Carry out pre-start inspections on hand tools, power equipment, and machinery to ensure safe operation.
- Store tools and equipment securely and maintain a tidy, hazard-free workspace.
- Perform general site duties as directed, including cleanup, basic repairs, and assisting with temporary structures.

About You
To be successful in the role you will possess the following:
- Construction White Card
- Work Safely at Heights (within 2 years of issue)
- High Risk Work Licence (WP essential, LF desirable)
- MSIC, or the ability to obtain
- A willingness to assist Mechanical Fitters, Boilermakers and various other trades
- Ability to pass a pre-employment Medical and regular / random Drug and Alcohol screens
- Additional Tickets will be highly regarded
