Mechanical Commissioning Technician
The Company
Civmec is an Australian-owned, integrated, multidisciplinary heavy engineering and construction services provider to the energy, resources, infrastructure, marine and defence sectors. Our diversification enables us to operate extensively across the nation, supporting a wide range of landmark projects and providing variety and career development opportunities for our workforce.
The Role
Reporting to the Commissioning Manager, the Mechanical Commissioning Technician plays a critical role in bringing Offshore Patrol Vessels (OPVs) into service. You’ll be hands-on throughout the commissioning lifecycle—leading Set to Work (STW) activities, supporting Harbour and Sea Acceptance Trials, and working closely with subcontractors, vendors, and internal teams to ensure systems perform safely and reliably.
Beyond trials, you’ll contribute to pre-test activities such as pipe testing and flushing, pre-delivery maintenance, equipment operation, and post-delivery warranty support. This is a varied and rewarding role where your technical expertise will directly impact vessel readiness and project success.
The role
- Develop and refine commissioning documentation, including STW checklists, risk assessments, and procedures to ensure safety and compliance
- Coordinate and verify isolation and re-energisation processes in line with approved safety protocols
- Perform pre- and post-STW maintenance to ensure systems are fully operational and optimised
- Operate commissioned equipment to support testing, troubleshooting, and commissioning activities
- Collaborate with Engineering, Production, and project teams to resolve issues and achieve project milestones
- Drive continuous improvement by applying lessons learned and industry best practices to commissioning processes
- Build strong working relationships with internal stakeholders, classification surveyors, and Navy customer representatives
- Ensure accurate and timely completion of all reports, logs, and commissioning documentation
About you
- A Mechanical Trade Qualification
- Current Confined Spaces, Working at Heights, and Gas Test Atmospheres licences
- 5+ years’ experience as a Marine Technician (highly desirable)
- Strong hands-on knowledge of STW, HATs, and SATs, and marine system operation and maintenance
- Experience across HVAC, platform, auxiliary, and propulsion systems (preferred)
- Proven ability to use test equipment, interpret results, and troubleshoot complex mechanical issues
